Information on GT Testing for 2026-27:
Current Students:
Current AHJS students who would like to be considered for GT placement for the 2026-27 school no longer need to test. The district is now using the MAP test scores taken during the year, along with teacher ratings and grades, for identification.
Students who have already qualified and are currently in a GT course do NOT need to do anything.
We are in the process of identifying students using criteria mentioned above. Notification of placement will be sent by the end of February.
District policy requires that students test for GT placement with the district first; outside testing is only allowed upon appeal.
New Students:
Students NEW to Alamo Heights ISD for 2026-27 in grades 6-8 who desire to seek GT placement have two opportunities to test during the summer: May 27 and 28 (must attend both days) OR July 30 and 31 (must attend both days). Students may begin signing up for testing AFTER they are pre–registered and/or registered for the upcoming school year. A GT Inquiry Form must be submitted upon registration to sign up for testing.
Please note that students take the entire CogAT battery, as well as the Iowa subject areas (Math and Reading) that align with their GT interests. The CogAT assessment typically takes 1.5 - 2 hours, while the Iowa assessment takes approximately 1.5 hours.
* GT testing occurs across multiple days, so the testing will be split with CogAT on one day and Iowa on another day.
